We locally source bamboo poles that have been selected from mature groves and harvested using proper techniques and standards to ensure the highest quality in the world. Unlike imported poles that are sprayed numerous times with toxic chemical demanded by importation restrictions, our poles are untreated and organic (uncertified). Poles are perfect for gardens, construction projects, crafts, children's toys, and a thousand other uses.

How We Measure Diameter
Since bamboo is a natural product and will vary in size. We measure with tree calipers about 4' from the base of the pole away from the nodes. The diameter tolerance by default is ±0.25". Orders needing smaller tolerances will have a higher price, and ones with looser tolerances will usually have a lower price. Poles will tend to be slightly smaller at the top and slightly larger at the bottom.
What to Expect
Since bamboo is a natural product, there aren't any perfectly straight poles, though some come pretty close. Each pole is slightly different in color, though most species fade to some version of tan. Whole poles will split sooner or later, but you can reduce chances of splitting by keeping the temperature and moisture regulated as well as cutting the ends at a node. We select poles for correct species and age of poles to maximize strength and minimize splitting. Poles can taper somewhat depending on species and what part of the pole it's coming from.
Descriptions
Raw: The bamboo is green (or black or yellow, depending on the species). No other washing or drying has been done to it, although some may have been air dried for a while.
Washed: We take raw poles and pressure wash them for the best possible presentation.
Kiln Dried: Quick dried in a kiln so that the bulk of the moisture is removed. This helps weed out any weak poles since they will tend to split in the kiln. The kiln also kills any insects that may have attached themselves or found their way into the bamboo.
Air Dried: Similar results to kiln drying, but the process takes 6+ months
Species - except for custom orders, whatever is in stock tends to determine the species you get
Henon - strong, straight, and large. Ideal for construction. Normally 2"~3" diameter. We usually keep this in stock.
Meyeri - strong and straight - medium sized. All around good for construction. Normally 1.5"~2.5"
Vivax - good wood quality with large diameters but thin-walled and prone to splitting. Ideal for crafts using half-rounds. Normally 2.5"~4"
Yellow Groove - soft wood quality only good for temporary projects. Normally 1"~1.5". We never stock this type but it is available for special orders, usually at a lesser price.
Black Bamboo - rare highly prized for it's ornamental value, black bamboo is the only type that doesn't turn tan when it dries. When not exposed to sunlight, it retains it's rich chocolate-black coloring. Ideal for interior decorating. Wood quality similar to Henon. Sometimes, especially on larger poles, it has a somewhat speckled pattern of black and green/tan. Usually 0.5"~1.5" This one is $1 more per foot than the other species
Japanese Timber (aka Madake) - Highly regarded for its strength and straightness. Usually 2.5"~3.5"
Moso - Thick walls, large diameters. Usually 2"~3.5"
