"David and his team were absolutely great! We bought a home in the summer with thick bamboo growth and they got it all removed for us. We waited until the fall to remove it, but David made sure to check in with us often. Throughout the whole process, they made sure to thoroughly explain everything to us and that we understood what was going on. On top of that, they got the work done in a single day, ahead of schedule! We'd highly recommend them"

"It was great working with Brightside Bamboo. David is an expert in the field, and enables the buyer to make the best, informed choice for their property. He offers a tremendous variety of bamboo plants, and can take the project from inception to completion with no stress to the client. Brightside provides a combination of services and products not found anywhere else in the Triangle, and would be a great choice for someone considering bamboo."

[On poles for building bike frames:] "That Decora stuff... you going to have more of that on hand? Hubba hubba. ...has an ideal wall thickness... it passed the bash test, and is reasonably light weight for what it is. Damn near ideal."
-Drew, St Paul, MN
"Brightside not only got rid of my bamboo but David explained every step of the process and answered all of my questions. He has a deep knowledge base and understanding about what he does for a living. When the excavation was complete, the Brightside staff took great care to fill in the site with dirt and seed the area with grass that would work best for my lawn.
David provided an exact quote for the work, delivered the work with great care, and made certain I was satisfied before he left. I would recommend Brightside Bamboo to anyone considering planting bamboo, rhizome barriers, or removal."
-Jennifer, Woodcroft in Durham
"Once again, our visitors were thrilled with the bamboo building experience. Thank you for delivering such a wonderful product in such an easy, timely manner."

"Many thanks to David for giving us his time an expertise yesterday in helping us pick out our Japanese Timber bamboo. We look forward to watching it grow and develop into quite a specimen. (The free poles served as stakes to keep it supported until it establishes itself). We will upload some pics in the future of its progress. I highly recommend Brightside Bamboo for anyone's bamboo needs. Thanks again David!"

"Brightside Bamboo helped me take control of my yard again! After years of back breaking work trying to keep the bamboo cut back I was lucky to stumble onto them. David came out to give me a consultation and was quite informative about what my options were. We decided the best route to contain the bamboo would be to put a bamboo barrier in. Almost a year later and my back feeling a lot better I feel like I have my yard back. I would highly recommend at least having a consultation to see what your options are and if you think you need some of the work done I'd definitey use Brightside Bamboo!"
-Kristian, Raleigh
"My requirements were something that would give me privacy [in time], a clumping bamboo so as not to infringe on neighbors' boundaries, something to be planted in shade a half mile from the ocean, something to grow 30 - 40 feet, and no rhizome barrier to deal with to save on work and cost. David Benfield of Brightside met ALL requirements and at excellent prices."
-Gene, Nags Head, NC
"My house is bordered by bamboo groves on three sides of my property. A few weeks ago my doorbell rang and there stood David who presented me with his business card--Brightside Bamboo. What luck! He was very knowledgeable about bamboo, how it grows and how it can be controlled. He presented me with several options of how to contain it. I chose to have a rhizome barrier put down. David and his Burmese crew worked diligently always taking into consideration my thoughts and wishes. It was tedious work but I was pleased with the end result. If you have bamboo and have difficulty keeping it under control, David is your man. Give him a call."

"I don’t always answer the door when the visitor is unfamiliar and might be a salesperson or solicitor, but I’m certainly glad I answered the day David came to my door. The line of bamboo between my house and my neighbor’s has been a bane of my existence for years. When it was healthy it required weekly cutting during the warm months, yet still threatened to take over. In recent years much of it had died back, decreasing maintenance requirements but creating an eyesore.
David clearly explained the solutions he could offer and told me about his company. I was thrilled to learn that there were effective solutions offered by a local company which has a nurturing, supportive relationship with our Burmese refugee community. I was not disappointed. David’s work is outstanding, his enthusiasm is engaging, and he is a great teacher regarding all things bamboo. My bamboo has been transformed from an out of control eyesore to an attractive border, and I can relax knowing it will stay that way now that I have a containment system and maintenance program in place.
If you have a need for bamboo management, don’t wait for David to find you. Contact him immediately—you’ll be glad you did."

"As an advertising and marketing agency we know appearance matters. We had a bamboo installation that looked great when the landscaper installed it years ago, but it had since become overgrown, unhealthy, and generally just messy. That's not good in our line of business, but we couldn't find any landscapers with sufficient knowledge of how to specifically care for bamboo. Thankfully Brightside Bamboo found us and have been able to save our bamboo from dying as well as keep it managed and looking great without us having to worry. Now our bamboo is once again reflecting the simple yet elegant aesthetic we like to convey to our clients."
-Robert West, Chairman/CEO The Republik in downtown Durham
"We're a real DIY-type family but found the consultation with Brightside Bamboo extremely helpful and let us cut through all the myths. We were able to walk away with a game plan that we could do ourselves that would've taken months of reading and research to figure out."

"As a landscaper, I used David's expertise to help me with my bamboo project. It turned out great! He is very easy to work with and I learned a lot myself."

"Thank you for the beautiful job you did on my bamboo grove. "

"Who would have thunk it? Not me. In less than 61 days I accomplished more than I had in 10 years. Thanks to David "Bamboo" Benfield.
Ten years ago images and articles on bamboo began to periodically splash into my consciousness. As I explored and questioned agricultural and forestry professors, researchers and extension agents about cultivating bamboo, I received the same silent/critical treatment. Their sporadic "non-response or nays" would convert to a reinforcing "NEXT" - my next step which was never to stop listening or reading or asking or believing.
In late September 2010 I read this email response to a cry for help from a property owner - ' Your bamboo "problem" is actually an incredible opportunity.'
Well that's all this inquiring mind needed to hunt down the possessor of this belief system. NEXT thing I know it was an initial coffee shop meeting in Downtown Durham, NC in early October 2010; then a site visit in the Embro Community in Warren County, NC in late October; then the on-site purchase of 21 bamboo culms at Mid-Atlantic Bamboo in Viriginia in late November; amazingly the transplanting of the culms in 3 groves full of organic nutrients and a channel of swales by December 4, 2010.
David literally had his hands in all aspects of the enterprise - from visualization to cultivation ... from soul to soil. Never a pushy shove. Always an extended hand and warm heart even as the snow began to descend during the last hour of planting. We were partners in the project conferring, collaborating and brainstorming. He was the mentor - providing knowledge via his own experience, his outreach to others with varied experiences, and sharing written materials on bamboo lore.
I can't say enough about this stranger who answered my call for aid and joined me in a dynamic trailblazing bamboo journey that will continue."
